National Traineeship in Professional Cookery
Stage 1 in Professional Cookery

The National Chef Traineeship is undertaken in two individual programmes with a qualification achievable on completion of each stage. Crumlin College is pleased to offer Stage 1, the Advanced Certificate in Professional Cookery with a FETAC Level 6 award after 2 years. The students learn basic culinery techniques.

Awarding Body:

FETAC LEVEL 6

All FETAC awards are in the process of being redeveloped. At present, all information on this website is accurate but slight changes may be made to some awards to reflect these developments in the year of entry.

Structure:

Trainees work full time as a chef and attend college one fixed day a week, with a 1 week period of college in September and May. Employers support the trainees in paid employment for the duration of the programme.

Delivery:

This course is delivered by a combination of work based learning with college based attendance on a day release basis. The work place learning must be supported throughout the first two years by an appointed mentor in the workplace.

To Enrol:

Application forms are available to download or to collect from the College from March onwards and should be returned as soon as possible. Applicants will be notified in August/September and called for interview.

Successful applicants will be notified in August and may be called for interview. Applicants must be currently employed in an approved establishment.

Formation of Classes:

The formation of classes depends on the demand. Crumlin College reserves the right under unavoidable circumstances to alter the time or day of a course & to substitute any teacher or instructor where necessary.

Successful students progress to Stage 2, the BA in Culinery Arts for a further 2 years of study in DIT.
