Commercial Fashion Design

This industry-focused course will prepare students for the modern retail workplace through a mixture of creative & innovative design, business and practical skills. Students will research and create contemporary colour stories and explore exciting garment shapes and how and where they might be manufactured. Students will gain technological skills like garment illustration and construction and production planning. Designers will explore issues affecting modern global retailing, including ethical, social and technical issues, sourcing, costing and development. Students will gain a mulitifactted vision of the global fashion industry and explore all aspects of fashion media from catwalk and astyling to fashion magazine editorial and journalism. Visual presentation and portfolio development are key skills developed on this course.

Awarding Body:

Further Education & Training Awards Council (FETAC) - Advanced Certificate in Fashion Design.

All FETAC awards are in the process of being redeveloped. At present, all information on this website is accurate but slight changes may be made to some awards to reflect these developments in the year of entry.

Career Opportunities:

Successful students will work as a designer or product developer at many industry levels. Students may also work as an assistant creative director or professional illustrator.

Minimum Entry Requirements:

Successful completion of FETAC Level 5 Fashion Studies Award or equivalent standards of education/work experience. All entry is subject to interview.
