Accounting Technician (Business Studies)

There is a growing demand in the marketplace for personnel who possess practical accounting skills combined with relevant computer experience, especially in computerised accounting systems. This Course aims to provide these essential practical accounting and computer skills to meet this growing need. Emphasis will be placed on the practical capabilities necessary for any accounting department in a modern business. The course is suited to students with numerical ability and an interest in accounting and computers. Students supplement their studies with work experience in a relevant area.

  • Accounting Technicians Ireland (ATI) - First Year

Progression

This Course also allows students to progress to further study in City of Dublin FET Crumlin for Accounting Technician (Second Year) with the Accounting Technicians Ireland (ATI).

Students are also eligible to apply for professional examinations with the Institute of Incorporated Public Accountants (IIPA) and for the Foundation Certificate 2 Level with the Institute of Certified Public Accountants (ICPA).

Minimum Entry Requirements

5 Passes in the Leaving Certificate which must include O5 in English, Accounting/Maths or a Distinction in the Leaving Cert Applied. Foundation Level Maths is not accepted as part of the minimum entry requirement for this course.

Accounting Technician - Second Year (ATI)

This 2nd-Year course provides a professional qualification from the Accounting Technicians in Ireland. Accounting Technicians are skilled support staff working in the accounting & finance areas.

Awarding Body

  • Accounting Technicians in Ireland (ATI) - Second Year.

This course can provide students with the following:

Students may also apply to Year 3 of the Bachelor of Business (Ordinary Degree) in Accounting in IT, Tallaght.

Minimum Entry Requirements

Successful completion of First Year ATI or accredited equivalent. Exemptions must be agreed by students with the A.T.I. All entry is subject to interview.

Reception & Office Administration (Information Processing)

This is a one year Course which aims to equip students with the skills necessary to work as an office administrator in a variety of organisations. Work experience in a relevant area will be undertaken one day a week.

  • QQI Level 5– Information Processing 5M2067 (120 Credits are required for the QQI award)

Career Opportunities

This course prepares students for employment as data entry clerk, junior office personnel, administrator and receptionist in a variety of companies.

Minimum Entry Requirements

Leaving Certificate/Leaving Certificate Applied or equivalent standards of education. Exemptions may be granted to mature students.

Business Management & Marketing

This two year course is designed to provide the knowledge & personal skills required for a career in business. The course combines the broad theoretical business & practical knowledge required to function at a high level in today's increasingly complex & challenging business world.

Awarding Body

  • Year 1- QQI Level 5 Business Studies 5M2102 (120 credits are required for the QQI award)
  • Year 2 - QQI Level 6 Business 6M4985 (120 credits are required for the QQI award)

Career Opportunities

Students who successfully complete this course will be prepared for immediate entry into the employment market in a variety of business roles within companies.

Progression

Students who successfully complete Year 2 may qualify for entry into  the Bachelor of Business (Ordinary Degree) in Management or Marketing in Technological University, Dublin. Entry level will be determined by results. Students may qualify for entry to other third level colleges with these qualifications.
